Lady Hester Lucy Stanhope (12 March 1776 – 23 June 1839) was the eldest child of Charles Stanhope, 3rd Earl Stanhope. In August 1803, she moved into the home of her uncle, Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger, to manage his household and act as his hostess and later secretary. Jonas King (1792-1869) was born near Hawley, Mass., the son of strict Puritan parents. He graduated from Williams College in 1816 and Andover Theological Seminary in 1819, and then spent six months at a mission in Charleston, S.C., where he was ordained as an evangelist.
